sobo’s inaugural release comes from rue beaubien resident project pablo aka patrick holland. montreal’s beaubien ouest can cause quite the daze in the heat of summer, so stepping out of the bedroom into the shed made all the difference for holland. live-off-the- floor takes with pals rory seydel (on guitar) and jeremy dabrowski (on the bass) can be heard on the title track, whereas freaked-out dx7 melodies and harmonies makeup “royal plus” and “closer”. an homage to one’s home & its dreamlike qualities, as well as a practice in call & response.

2021 repress - after the release of brazilian disco boogie sounds (fvr098), favorite recordings follows-up, this time focusing on its homeland language. helped by a close connoisseur friend, dj and collector charles maurice presents a fine selection of what he thinks represent best the amazing energy of this specific movement and period. with 10 rare titles, all produced between 1975 and 1984, he shows a perfect picture of what you could find in french record stores at that time, on one hand, tracks by overdrive, marché noir, didier makaga or france-lise, were produced by underground artists and labels from the french caribbean and african community and also filled with the raw spirit of this tropical stamping. on the other hand, tracks by beckie bell, kelly, le club, or bernard guyvan, were released by major labels such as trëma, carrere, disques vogue, or pathé marconi, thanks to confirmed independent producers, acting not only in france, but also in canada and the us. today, favorite recordings and charles maurice are very proud to shed some light again on these gems, and hopefully offer them a new life on your turntable

originally released in 1986 under luis delgado s cult imprint -el cometa de madrid- produced by luis delgado (finnis africae, mecánica popular) and performed by patricia escudero, this beautiful record dives into erik satie s compositional work thru an experimental optic. entirely recorded on synthesizers, and making heavy use of fx and timbral manipulation, this recording brings out a satie that s never heard before. additional info: -this record was remastered and cut from the original tapes. however, those tapes were highly affected for what is known as the sticky shed syndrome, and were very deteriorated. even though that was professionally taken care of, it was a very long process to get a result that exceeded our standards to be pressed. that being said, there are very few parts were you might find an slight change on sound that was impossible to eliminate completely, due to the above mentioned issu
